Abstract :

He will present on “state-of-the-art robotics in Hanyang University and Korea” that consists of three parts. One is an introduction to Hanyang University and the second is an introduction to CIM and Robotics Lab and his research groups, and the last is one of his recent research on high-precision robotics.

Hanyang University began as the nation`s first private College of Engineering in 1939, producing numerous specialists who have worked as the backbone of the nation`s industrialization and modernization. Now, it is arising as a new model of an educational System for the 21st century. Hanyangians treasure their history and traditions and are spreading their wings to design a better future. At the C&R Lab, Various robotic technologies are studied and realized. We strongly believe that robotics is an essential issue for a better future of human life. Biography :

Prof. Chang-soo Han received the B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Hanyang University in 1983, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from University of Texas at Austin in 1985 and 1989, respectively. From 1990, he joined Hanyang University, ERICA in Korea, and now is a professor in the department of mechanical engineering. His research interests include wearable robots, human-robot interaction, rehabilitation, biomechanics, and automation in construction.

He is an active researcher with brilliant achievement. He is currently an executive officer of many academic societies such as International Association for Automation and Robotics in Construction, Korean Society of Precision Engineering (President of Robot Division), Korean Society of Manufacturing Technology Engineers, Korean Society of Semiconductor and Display Technology. He published 75 international SCI papers, 94 Korean journal papers, several hundreds of conference papers as well as 29 patents since 1990.

He is also interested in education robotics. He is leading CIM and Robotics Lab since 1990 and has supervised 104 masters and 21 PhDs. He was awarded the Best Teacher by HYU at 2008. He is the president of Robot Education Contents Association (RECA) which held international competition festival for teenagers in East Asia. He awarded Prominent Engineer by Prime Minister of Korean government at 2010 and is a member of Korean Academy of Science and Technology. He has conducted more than 90 projects funded by government and industry. He is currently leading three research centers – Advanced Manipulation Research Center, Building Maintenance Robot Research Center, Mobiligence and Manipulation Research Center.
