Biography

Dr. Xu received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 2006 and 2008, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, MA, USA, in 2012. Dr. Xu was a CMI (Center for the Mathematics of Information) postdoctoral fellow at the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA, USA, in 2012-2013. Before joining the Chinese University of Hong Kong as an assistant professor in 2017, he was an assistant professor at the Singapore University of Technology and Design, Singapore, as an assistant professor in 2013-2017.

His research interests focus on energy systems and markets, with emphasis on power system control and optimization, wholesale electricity market design, and the scheduling and pricing of distributed energy resources in power distribution networks. Dr. Xu was a recipient of the MIT-Shell Energy Fellowship.
