Biography

Dr. Yi-Chun Lu received her B.S. degree in Materials Science & Engineering from the National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan, in 2007. She received her Ph.D. degree in Materials Science & Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, USA in 2012. After her graduate study, she worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Chemistry at the Technische Universität München, Germany.

Dr. Lu has been appointed as a research affiliate of MIT since 2013. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Lu currently serves as an editorial board member for Scientific Reports (Nature Publishing Group).

Research

Dr. Lu's research interest centers on developing fundamental understanding and functional materials for clean energy storage and conversion. Her field of expertise includes electrochemistry, charge transfer and transport kinetics, electrocatalysis, solid-state chemistry, materials synthesis and chemistry by design. Her research group, Electrochemical Energy & Interfaces Laboratory, has extensive efforts on:

  • Electrode and electrolyte design for high-energy metal-air and metal sulfur batteries.
  • Redox-active components and solution chemistry for redox-flow batteries.
  • Electrocatalysts and electrode design for low-temperature fuel cells and electrolyzers
  • Mechanistic understanding of interfacial phenomena governing electrochemical energy conversion and storage processes.
