Brief Biography

Since 2005, Dr. Raymond Leung has been the Chairman and CEO of TDK China, overseeing all businesses in the region including SAE Magnetics, the company he helped founded 30 years ago and currently is the world’s largest magnetic head manufacturer with an annual turnover of over 2 billion USD, out of the total 4 billion USD of the entire business portfolio under his responsibility. Dr. Leung also serves as the Executive Vice President of TDK Corporation, the first non-Japanese officer appointed for the post since its establishment in 1935, and, among others, the Chairman of SAE and a Board Member of Imation, a US based company focusing on digital storage technology.

Dr. Leung is well regarded in the community as a high-tech entrepreneur with a mission of nurturing and growing high-tech industry. In particular, he was credited in helping many technology startup companies in the region. In 1999, he has founded Amperex Technology Limited that grew to become the world’s second largest supplier of lithium polymer battery for mobile devices, and became a member of TDK Group in 2005. He was also instrumental in SAE’s acquisition of Headway Technologies in 2000, a wafer fab in US, and Acasia Technologies in 2004 focusing on transceiver modules for optical communication and a spin off from Applied Science and Technology Research Institute of the Hong Kong Government.

Dr. Leung has been very active in community services. He serves a member of the advisory committee of numerous universities and government bodies of Hong Kong, the economic advisor of a number of cities in China and North Dakota of the USA, and co-founded the Asian chapter of the MIT originated One Laptop Per Child, the OLPC Asia Pacific.

Dr. Leung is a conferred Honorary Fellow of CityU, an Honorary Fellow of HKUST, and received an Outstanding Alumni Award of PolyU. In recognition to his contribution to city's economic growth and development, he was bestowed an Honorary Citizen of Dongguan City. Dr. Leung graduated with an Engineering Doctorate (EngD) degree from the CityU.
